Description: Meet Henry — a model-train-collecting, bespectacled suburban nerd whose sex life is as lifeless as his miniature locomotives. His wife (Barbara Kline) is a gorgeous but nagging nympho who demands passion Henry simply can’t deliver. When therapy and vitamins fail, fate intervenes in the form of an old trunk bought at a neighborhood auction — inside, a formula for invisibility.
One sneeze later, Henry vanishes into the California night and into the bedrooms of the voluptuous women next door. Soon, the neighborhood is plagued by “mystery lovers” as Henry’s invisible escapades spiral from voyeuristic pranks to full-blown erotic mischief. Cue the shimmering lounge score, bubble-bath seductions, and a series of sight gags that mix Playboy After Dark energy with Mad Scientist absurdity.
Shot with the glossy-cheap charm of late-’60s West Coast nudie cinema, Henry’s Night In is pure sexploitation farce — a mash-up of slapstick sci-fi and softcore titillation. Director unknown (likely from the “California Cuties” circuit), but the camera work and comic pacing suggest the influence of Findlay-school grindhouse humor: cheap sets, invisible mice at cocktail parties, and actresses pretending to moan at thin air.
Harvy Shain (clean-shaven here, before his mustached “shaggy dog” persona took over) plays the dweeb to perfection, while Phyllis Stengel and Mary Bauer provide the requisite sun-kissed flesh, complete with the era’s tell-tale “augmentation scars” — exploitation authenticity at its finest.
A time capsule of the nudie-cutie’s last gasp, Henry’s Night In captures the transition between the coy humor of the early ’60s and the explicit freedom that would define the ’70s.
