Description: After a traumatic assault in her youth, Daniela retreats with her father to the family’s isolated countryside estate. There, she becomes obsessed with an ancestral legend — a woman from her bloodline said to have transformed into a wolf-beast and slaughtered those who wronged her. The resemblance between Daniela and the cursed ancestor begins to fracture her fragile state of mind.
When her sister and brother-in-law arrive for a visit, hallucination and reality blur. Daniela’s violent impulses erupt, leaving a trail of brutal deaths that authorities struggle to explain. Institutionalized and later escaped, she drifts through Italy in a haze of desire, paranoia, and vengeance — unsure whether she is psychologically shattered or truly possessed by something primal.
More psychological exploitation than traditional werewolf horror, Werewolf Woman trades full-moon mythology for trauma-fueled rage, wrapping sleaze, surrealism, and bleak fatalism into one of the more unsettling entries of 70s Italian genre cinema.
Legacy Note:
Directed by Rino Di Silvestro, the film stands as a grimy hybrid of sexploitation and horror at a time when Italian cinema blurred genre lines without restraint. Rather than embracing classic lycanthropy, it channels the era’s fascination with psychological breakdown and violent repression — making it less a monster movie and more a nihilistic character study disguised as one.
