Wealthy and rebellious siblings Nick (some hunky guy) and Donna (incredibly foxy slender brunette Donna Stanley) defy their affluent upbringing by moving out on their own and making an underground movie about the loose sexual mores of the swingin’ 60’s San Francisco youth scene. Donna conducts random interviews with people on the street and experiments with lesbianism while Philip participates in a threesome with two women he’s filming.
All of writer/director Nick Philips’ trademark peculiar touches are present and accounted for: a rambling and episodic, yet still absorbing narrative which unfolds in an engagingly breezy free-form style, an eclectic score that alternates between groovy Middle Eastern sitar rock and moody jazz, kooky nonconformist fringe types as the main characters, and a flippant stream-of-consciousness narrator who makes amusingly sarcastic comments about the on-screen action throughout. Of course, there’s also loads of yummy female nudity and a handful of sizzling simulated sex scenes that occasionally border on hardcore (Donna’s steamy lesbian tryst with the always delicious Monica Gayle rates as the definite erotic highlight). What sets this particular picture from Philips’ usual gloomy fare is the playful and lighthearted self-parodic tone and an atypically upbeat conclusion. An enjoyably oddball outing.
