Description: Deep in Germany’s Ruhr coal region, miner Egon Kappes and his four buddies grind through life underground — united not just by hard labor, but by their long-running lottery syndicate. For years they’ve dreamed of striking it rich… and then it finally happens. A winning ticket. A serious payout. Fortuna smiles.
There’s just one problem: Egon has misplaced the ticket.
While the crew already begins spending their imagined fortune, bills stack up, debts spiral, and a ruthless local moneylender circles like a vulture. Domestic tensions rise, suspicions spread among the miners’ wives, and misunderstandings snowball into full-blown farce.
This bawdy Ruhrpott comedy mixes working-class satire with the cheeky tone typical of 1970s German sex comedies. The humor leans into provincial absurdity: mistaken accusations, runaway wigs hiding lottery slips, mental hospital mishaps, and chaotic chases through small-town streets.
Underneath the risqué gags and slapstick lies a portrait of blue-collar aspiration — men chasing wealth to escape the mines, only to nearly lose everything through impatience and pride.
Legacy Note:
Part of the wave of mid-70s West German “Bergarbeiter” and sex-farce comedies, Bohr weiter, Kumpel captures the regional flavor of the Ruhr: loud, earthy, unpolished, and proudly working-class. It’s less polished satire than rowdy pub humor — very much a product of its time and place.
