Description: Jack James is a struggling music-hall entertainer whose career seems to be heading nowhere fast. Then an unexpected inheritance changes everything: his late aunt has left him a grand old mansion. What Jack doesn’t initially realize is that the house comes with a very unusual history — and a ready-made business operating behind its respectable front door.
With the mansion suddenly falling into his hands, Jack decides to keep the establishment running. The problem is that nobody is expecting a male owner, and Jack’s background as a performer gives him an absurd solution: disguise himself as his deceased aunt and step into the role of the house’s formidable new madam.
From there, Keep It Up, Jack! becomes a parade of misunderstandings, quick costume changes, and increasingly ridiculous close calls. Jack darts in and out of rooms under different identities, trying to manage the household, avoid exposure, and keep the business afloat while the women around him remain cheerfully unaware of the full situation.
Things become more complicated when Jack falls for Fleur, the mansion’s newest arrival. What begins as a purely opportunistic scheme slowly turns into a romantic problem, forcing Jack to find a way out of his own deception before the entire house discovers who has really been hiding behind the wigs, dresses, and theatrical entrances.
Legacy Note:
Keep It Up, Jack! is a scruffy example of 1970s British sex-comedy at its most unapologetically silly. Directed by Derek Ford, it borrows the broad misunderstandings, disguises, and bedroom-door chaos of the Carry On tradition, then pushes them into the more permissive grindhouse climate of the decade. It may not be subtle, but its cheerful low-budget energy, endless costume gags, and knowingly absurd premise make it a genuine time capsule of British exploitation comedy.
