Description: Pamela Goodright becomes suspicious when her friend Carla reportedly dies in a fiery automobile accident. There is one obvious problem with the official story: Carla never knew how to drive.
Convinced that something has been concealed, Pamela contacts her former college sweetheart Wayne. Together they begin retracing Carla’s final days, eventually discovering that she had become involved with a peculiar organization operating in the Hollywood Hills.
At the center of the mystery is Manheim Jarkoff, an eccentric film producer who runs a company called Satanic Films. Jarkoff claims Carla was unstable and dismisses her death as the inevitable result of a reckless lifestyle. His exaggerated charm, however, only makes Pamela more certain that he is hiding something.
She is right.
Satanic Films is a front for an occult circle devoted to ritual excess and human sacrifice. Jarkoff leads the group with the assistance of Boris, his dim-witted but dangerous servant, and Edith, a centuries-old witch whose youthful appearance conceals an unnatural history.
Carla has already fallen victim to the cult, and Pamela has been selected as its next offering. As she and Wayne continue asking questions, Jarkoff realizes they know too much and uses intimidation, hypnosis, and supernatural deception to separate them.
The investigation becomes even more complicated when Edith develops an obsession with Wayne. Entering his home through apparently supernatural means, she attempts to draw him away from Pamela and the mortal world. But affection is forbidden within Jarkoff’s order, and Edith’s rebellion places her under the same curse that has sustained her for centuries.
Pamela is eventually taken into the cult’s underground world, where bargain-store robes, ceremonial chanting, improvised altars, and theatrical invocations transform the Hollywood Hills into a lurid vision of Hell. Wayne must reach her before Jarkoff completes the ritual and delivers another victim to the entity he claims to serve.
Satan’s Lust combines an amateur detective story with occult horror and early-1970s adult exploitation. Its premise resembles a Satanic conspiracy thriller, but its execution feels more like a midnight performance staged by a group of Los Angeles outsiders who happened to possess a camera, several capes, and an overwhelming enthusiasm for the Devil.
Legacy Note: Commonly credited to Anthony Spinelli, Satan’s Lust appeared during a period when American exploitation filmmakers were rapidly embracing witchcraft, ritual murder, the counterculture, and public fascination with organized Satanism. Its Hollywood setting allows the film to blend those anxieties with casting-couch mythology and suspicion toward the adult-film business.
The opening attempts to convince viewers that the production was created by an authentic occult research organization whose members subsequently met mysterious deaths. This carnival-barker deception establishes the movie’s preferred tone: everything is presented as forbidden evidence, even when the costumes and sets make the fabrication delightfully obvious.
Judy Angel, already associated with pioneering adult-era productions, plays Pamela as both investigator and threatened heroine. James Mathers provides the comparatively grounded Wayne, while Ron Darby’s Boris approaches the role of Jarkoff’s assistant like a confused combination of Renfield, executioner, and failed hippie.
The film’s great cult attraction is George “Buck” Flower as Manheim Jarkoff. Wearing a smoking jacket or ceremonial cape, Flower delivers threats, invocations, and prolonged laughter with complete commitment. Long before his familiar appearances in films by John Carpenter, he was already demonstrating the grizzled, unpredictable screen presence that would make him instantly recognizable to exploitation audiences.
Its soundtrack is as chaotic as its story, combining chanting, thunderstorms, jazz, familiar classical passages, and conspicuously recognizable popular melodies. Rather than producing atmosphere in any conventional way, the music creates the sensation that several unrelated films are being projected simultaneously.
Technically crude, narratively unstable, and frequently more absurd than frightening, Satan’s Lust nevertheless preserves something difficult to manufacture deliberately: the unfiltered strangeness of regional exploitation cinema. Its cardboard occultism and dead-serious performances make the film feel both ridiculous and faintly troubling.
For collectors of early adult horror, it remains a wonderfully disreputable artifact—a Satanic Hollywood mystery in which a vanished woman, an ancient witch, a leering producer, and a Devil in discount-store disguise collide beneath the hills of Los Angeles.
