Description: Big Jim rules his patch of the rural South like a private kingdom. He owns the land, the money, the local influence — and behaves as if that gives him the right to control the people around him too, especially the women. His marriage to the much younger Melody is less a partnership than a locked arrangement, with Big Jim expecting loyalty, silence, and obedience while granting himself every indulgence he wants.
But the world around him is beginning to shift. Melody, tired of being treated like part of the furniture, starts looking beyond the house and the life he’s forced on her. At the same time, cracks begin opening elsewhere in Big Jim’s empire: loyalties at the ranch start slipping, side deals emerge . . .
