Description: MAN OF VIOLENCE shows Walker to be a thoughtful and capable creator of a believable and claustrophobic urban mise-en-scene. His depiction of the criminal locale as both seedy and exotic owes much to film noir. It should be remembered that this film pre-dates the release of the three major British gangster pictures of 1971, PERFORMANCE, VILLAIN and GET CARTER. Its violence is as nasty as theirs and its negativity seems to provide inspiration for Lindsay Shonteff’s ultra-bleak THE FAST KILL.
