Description: Meet William Companion Peters, an eccentric Irish pet shop owner whose affection for animals is rivaled only by his curiosity about beautiful women. In Mr. Peters’ Pets, an extraordinary magical discovery transforms his ordinary existence into a wildly imaginative adventure filled with glamorous ladies, mischievous animals, and outrageous misunderstandings.

Everything changes when Willy receives an advertisement from the mysterious Maharajah of Poon Ja, offering an exotic formula known as Animal Ambrosia. Supposedly designed to ensure the happiness of household pets, the miraculous substance possesses an unexpected power: anyone who consumes it can transform into an animal.

Unable to resist such an extraordinary opportunity, Willy experiments with the magical potion and discovers that he can assume the appearance of various household creatures. His newfound talent opens the door to an endless series of comic adventures and unexpected encounters.

Disguising himself as adorable kittens, goldfish, turtles, and other unsuspecting pets, Willy enters the homes of beautiful prospective customers. His supposed mission is to determine whether these women would provide suitable homes for his animals, but his transformations also give him opportunities for outrageous voyeurism.

Each new disguise introduces another glamorous woman and another ridiculous situation. From sunbathing beauties to women relaxing in their private rooms, Willy’s unusual adventures unfold through a succession of playful encounters, colorful interiors, and cheerful visual gags.

Combining magical transformation, cheeky humor, and innocent-looking animal disguises, Mr. Peters’ Pets is a wonderfully eccentric example of the early American nudie-cutie genre.

Legacy Note: Directed by Peter Perry Jr., Mr. Peters’ Pets belongs to the colorful period when American exploitation filmmakers discovered increasingly imaginative ways to combine nudity with harmless comedy and fantastic situations. Its unusual premise represents a distinctive variation on the voyeuristic formula popularized by Russ Meyer’s The Immoral Mr. Teas (1959).

Al Hopson delivers an amusing performance as the curious pet shop proprietor, surrounded by a remarkable collection of early-1960s glamour performers. Denise Daniels appears as a blonde woman accompanied by a kitten, Mickey Frantz encounters the transformed protagonist as a goldfish, and Margo Mehling appears alongside a duck. Lana Martin, Althea Currier, and Sue Parker contribute additional sunbathing and glamour sequences.

The film also features Baby Bubbles, credited as Elaine Jones, together with Palva Itano and Candis McKay in an exotic harem sequence. Its bright color photography, playful visual effects, continuous voice-over narration, and lively musical accompaniment capture the whimsical atmosphere of vintage erotic fantasy cinema.

Peter Perry Jr. continued exploring fantastic comedy and provocative situations in Kiss Me Quick (1964), another imaginative example of the nudie-cutie tradition. For a similarly playful combination of science-fiction fantasy and glamorous nudity, discover Doris Wishman’s Nude on the Moon (1961).

Charming in its absurdity and unmistakably rooted in the early 1960s, Mr. Peters’ Pets remains a delightful curiosity of American cult cinema—a mischievous fantasy in which magical potions, beautiful women, and an unusually adventurous pet shop owner create one of the most eccentric premises in vintage sexploitation history.
