Description: In Roots of Evil, German folk singer Christian Anders stars as Frank Mertens, a peaceful and principled karate instructor who simply wants to honor his late master’s teachings by running a humble dojo and promoting non-violence. Alongside his loyal secretary Ingrid (Maribel Martín), Frank lives a quiet life—until chaos arrives in the form of Van Bullock, a sinister and sadistic drug lord with a black belt and a big ego, portrayed by none other than Deep Roy in one of his earliest and most outrageous roles.
Van Bullock, a pint-sized megalomaniac with dreams of martial arts domination, decides to set up his own karate school right next door—but competition is not something he tolerates. When Frank refuses to sell his dojo, Van Bullock unleashes his army of thugs and his brutish, neutered enforcer Komo (Fernando Bilbao) to apply pressure, threats, and brute force.
When intimidation fails, Van Bullock resorts to framing Frank with planted drugs, landing the noble instructor behind bars. But prison can’t hold a man of honor for long. With nothing left to lose and vengeance burning in his heart, Frank escapes and transforms into a full-blown one-man army—years before Rambo made it mainstream.
What follows is a bizarre and unforgettable showdown involving jungle chases, mansion orgies, crooked cops, and kung-fu carnage. Roots of Evil blends martial arts mayhem with B-movie absurdity, delivering a unique exploitation spectacle where underdogs fight dirty, villains come pint-sized, and justice comes with a side of roundhouse kicks.
