Description: Rötmånad (Dog Days) is a dark, tragi-comic drama set in a quiet Swedish coastal town. The story follows Assar Gustafsson, a well-meaning but helpless man whose life unravels when his estranged wife Sally returns after four years of mysterious absence. Sally, a ruthless and manipulative woman, quickly reasserts control over the household with her domineering presence and unscrupulous lifestyle.
Sally, a hardened prostitute, humiliates Assar by making him serve her clients and even charging him for intimacy. More disturbingly, she begins to exploit their teenage daughter, Anna-Bella, pushing her into the same lifestyle under the guise of modeling work. When a client falls in love with Anna-Bella, Sally sees it as a threat to her control and takes deadly action.
This murder sets off a chain of tragic events, including Anna-Bella’s own violent retaliation and Assar’s accidental death while preparing to carry out a plan of his own against Sally. The film closes on a grimly ironic note as Anna-Bella, following in her mother’s footsteps, offers herself to an undertaker in lieu of payment—unaware of the deadly trap that awaits.
With its bleak humor and unsettling portrayal of moral decay, Dog Days presents a disturbing family portrait underscored by exploitation and fatalism. While known for featuring early appearances by Christina Lindberg, the film is far more than an erotic piece—it is a grim social satire on survival, manipulation, and the cyclical nature of abuse.
