Description: Sandra has rebuilt her life quietly after escaping Julien, a former lover whose presence once turned romance into control, humiliation, and emotional dependence. Now living with her younger sister Constance, she tries to maintain a simple routine far away from the memories that still haunt her.

That fragile peace ends when Julien returns.

At first, his reappearance feels almost ghostlike. Sandra senses that she is being watched, and the fear she had buried begins to rise again. Julien knows exactly how to reach her: through memory, guilt, desire, and the cruel suggestion that she never truly escaped him at all. His return forces Sandra to relive the past she fought to leave behind, while Constance, innocent of the full history between them, becomes dangerously vulnerable to his attention.

As Julien moves between the two sisters, the film becomes less a story of pleasure than of manipulation. Sandra understands the emotional trap being set, but her shame and unresolved longing make resistance painful. Constance, drawn into a world she does not fully understand, becomes part of Julien’s attempt to replace, punish, and possess the woman who left him.

Secrets of a Nymphomaniac is built around that uncomfortable psychological triangle: a wounded woman trying to reclaim herself, a younger sister pulled toward danger, and a man who treats intimacy as a form of power. Beneath the sensational title lies a darker French melodrama about dependency, coercion, and the difficulty of escaping a relationship that has already damaged the soul.

Legacy Note:
Secrets of a Nymphomaniac belongs to the late-1970s transition in French erotic cinema, when some productions began combining explicit adult material with psychological drama and darker emotional themes. Directed by Claude Pierson, who had already moved from earlier erotic features into harder-edged adult work, the film uses its genre framework to stage a story of memory, shame, and control rather than a simple fantasy of liberation.

Monique Ciron, credited in some versions as Ursula White, gives Sandra a vulnerable melancholy that keeps the film from becoming merely mechanical. Alban Ceray’s Julien functions as a destructive force from the past, while Sylvie Dessartre’s Constance brings the story its most fragile point of tension. Uneasy, uneven, and very much of its period, the film survives as a grim adult-era curiosity where desire is inseparable from regret.
