Description: In this bawdy reworking of the Robin Hood legend, Sherwood Forest is less a noble rebel camp than a woodland playground where Robin and his merry men spend as much time chasing pleasure as they do resisting tyranny. The poor may still need defending, the rich may still deserve robbing, but in this version the outlaw life comes with far more wine, women, and after-dark mischief.
The fun ends when Prince John decides it is time to crush Robin once and for all. With King Richard away, John and his allies scheme to tighten their control, collect taxes, and seize the outlaw’s hidden fortune. To draw Robin into the open, they turn to the one person guaranteed to matter: Maid Marian.
Marian becomes the center of the trap. Used as bait, prisoner, and bargaining piece, she is pulled into the battle between Robin’s reckless freedom and Prince John’s corrupt authority. Lady Sallyforth adds another layer of villainy, helping John twist the old legend into a game of seduction, humiliation, treasure, and betrayal.
Robin’s camp is soon threatened from within and without. Spies, turncoats, castle guards, and scheming nobles all circle the forest, while Robin must decide whether to protect his gold, rescue Marian, or finally face the royal enemy who wants both his body and his rebellion broken.
The Erotic Adventures of Robin Hood is a late-60s softcore adventure spoof that treats medieval folklore as a naughty drive-in playground. It is cheap, silly, theatrical, and very much of its period, but it also has a surprisingly sturdy adventure skeleton beneath the ribald distractions. Prince John plots, Marian is captured, Robin is betrayed, and Sherwood becomes the stage for a low-budget battle between lusty freedom and aristocratic cruelty.
Legacy Note:
The Erotic Adventures of Robin Hood belongs to the early wave of American softcore costume spoofs, when familiar legends, fairy tales, and adventure stories were repurposed for adult drive-in and grindhouse audiences. Directed by Richard Kanter with Erwin C. Dietrich also associated with the production, the film sits at the crossroads of sexploitation parody and cheap swashbuckling adventure.
Its cult value comes from that odd mixture. The movie is not merely a string of bedroom scenes in medieval costumes; it actually tries to build a Robin Hood plot around Prince John, Lady Sallyforth, Maid Marian, betrayal, imprisonment, and hidden treasure. Steve Vincent’s Prince John and Lynn Cartwright’s Lady Sallyforth give the villain side a camp-theatrical bite, while Dee Lockwood’s Marian provides the story’s main dramatic leverage.
Today, the film survives as a curious relic from a moment before hardcore cinema overtook the softcore market: a naughty Sherwood Forest fantasy where old adventure serials, bedroom farce, castle melodrama, and late-60s exploitation all meet under the same badly lit canopy.
