Description: Three sailors arrive at the port of Santos after spending four months at sea and head toward São Paulo. The film unfolds through three separate stories, each following one of the sailors on his own unexpected and often surreal adventure:
(1) “A Carta de Érico” (“The Letter from Érico”)
The first sailor carries a mysterious letter he found in an alleyway in Porto Alegre, written by a man named Érico. Determined to deliver it, he visits the address in São Paulo but receives no answer at the door. Recalling Érico’s words—that it was crucial to insist—he enters the apartment, where he finds a woman, Ms. Cibele Marcondes, on the brink of suicide.
After an unexpected and intimate encounter between them, Cibele opens the envelope only to find a blank sheet of paper inside. Unbeknownst to either of them, Érico may have been an angelic figure, guiding the sailor to intervene at just the right time.
(2) “Peixe Fora d’Água” (“Fish out of Water”)
The second sailor ventures into a gay bar but is assaulted by two men. Shortly after, he meets a woman named Susana, who invites him back to her place. While waiting for her, a criminal named Cesar enters, armed with a revolver, but ultimately allows the sailor to remain with Susana.
After they have sex, Susana proposes a heist: she and three accomplices plan to rob her ex-husband’s home and need someone new to help. Naively, the sailor agrees to join them—only to become entangled in a dangerous scheme with tragic consequences.
(3) “Júlio e o Paraíso” (“Júlio and the Paradise”)
The third sailor, an older man named Júlio, encounters five starving young hippie women on the streets. He offers to buy them lunch, and afterward, they take him to their home. There, they discover that Júlio is carrying a large sum of money. Faced with desperation, the women make a deadly decision.
