Kate, an ambitious journalism student at Mesa University, goes undercover as a cheerleader to expose the objectification of women in college sports culture. Expecting to find nothing more than superficiality and short skirts, she instead discovers a world brimming with contradictions, secrets, and genuine emotional complexity.
Among her new teammates are a shy virgin yearning for sexual awakening, a spoiled heiress used to getting her way, and a student having a covert affair with a married professor. As Kate digs deeper, she uncovers a web of corruption that includes a rigged football program, a crooked dean, and a coach entangled in illegal gambling. Ironically, the football star she assumed was a misogynist turns out to be one of the most decent people on campus, while her supposedly progressive editor boyfriend proves to be a fraud.
