Description: What really happened to the mysterious Miss Jonas? Behind her provocative reputation and sudden rise to fame lies a colorful past filled with ambition, scandal, and intimate secrets. In this unusual sequel to the cult erotic fantasy The Devil in Miss Jonas, a private detective sets out to uncover the truth about the beautiful and enigmatic Christa Lindberger.
Jim Bent, a private investigator working for a wealthy businessman, is hired to discover the identity and background of a mysterious young woman whose appearance has attracted his employer’s attention. His investigation leads him through the fashionable and sometimes disreputable corners of European nightlife, where everyone seems to remember Christa differently.
Following a trail of photographs, personal encounters, and contradictory recollections, Jim interviews a photographer, a dancing instructor, a fashion designer, and individuals connected to the nightclub scene. Each new discovery reveals another chapter in Christa’s unconventional journey from an aspiring model to a celebrated figure in the adult entertainment world.
Gradually, the pieces of her story come together. Christa’s experiences as an artist’s model, her involvement in the world of expensive companionship, and her eventual transition into erotic filmmaking reveal a young woman whose glamorous public image conceals a far more complicated personal history.
As Jim moves deeper into his investigation, professional curiosity begins to blur with personal fascination. The detective discovers that understanding Miss Jonas requires more than collecting facts, and his assignment takes an unexpectedly intimate turn.
What Really Happened to Miss Jonas? combines a playful detective-story framework with the uninhibited atmosphere of 1970s European erotic cinema. Its episodic structure, glamorous settings, beautiful performers, and humorous examination of celebrity and sexual reputation create an entertaining mixture of mystery and erotic comedy.
Legacy Note: Written and directed by Erwin C. Dietrich under his familiar pseudonym Michael Thomas, What Really Happened to Miss Jonas? continues the story introduced in The Devil in Miss Jonas (1974). While its predecessor approached erotic fantasy through a bizarre supernatural premise, this follow-up replaces the infernal setting with a playful investigation into the hidden life of its central female character.
Christa Free returns as Christa Lindberger, bringing the same distinctive combination of glamour and uninhibited screen presence to the role. Marianne Dupont appears as Tamara, while Michel Jacot and Kurt Meinicke are both credited in connection with the private investigator Jim Bent. The supporting ensemble includes Mika Erras, Rita Waldenberg, Jana Kleck, and Britt Corvin.
Free was a familiar presence in Dietrich’s productions, appearing in films such as Young Seducers 2 (1972). She later reunited with Marianne Dupont in Self Service Girls (1975), another example of the playful and provocative European adult cinema associated with their careers.
With its lighthearted mystery, colorful personalities, and fascination with the blurred boundaries between private identity and public fantasy, What Really Happened to Miss Jonas? remains an entertaining curiosity of vintage European sexploitation—a film in which uncovering a woman’s past becomes an unconventional journey through the pleasures, contradictions, and absurdities of the 1970s erotic entertainment scene.
