Description: Gaye Ramon was once a glamorous Hollywood starlet, but her glory days are long gone. Now living in a cluttered Los Angeles mansion surrounded by faded photographs, extravagant costumes, and memories of former admirers, she refuses to accept that her celebrity has disappeared.

Determined to remain desirable, Gaye operates an unconventional acting school from her home, attracting ambitious young men with promises of fame, personal attention, and private lessons that have very little to do with acting.

Her latest student is Buck, a handsome aspiring actor whose relationship with girlfriend Virginia is falling apart. Gaye immediately recognizes an opportunity to enjoy the company of her attractive new pupil while convincing him that her unusual teaching methods are essential to his Hollywood future.

Meanwhile, the flamboyant photographer and would-be director Rodney LeCoq runs his own dubious talent operation. His outrageous casting couch auditions attract beautiful young women hoping for their big break, leading to revealing photo sessions, seductive encounters, and increasingly ridiculous situations.

When Virginia returns, romantic jealousy and wounded vanity send Gaye into a theatrical frenzy. Hollywood ambition, fading beauty, erotic temptation, and spectacularly bad behavior collide in a gloriously trashy celebration of show-business decadence.

Oh! You Beautiful ‘Doll’ is a wildly eccentric sex comedy filled with outrageous performances, provocative nudity, bizarre humor, and an unexpectedly bitter portrait of a former star desperate to remain young and irresistible.

Legacy Note: Written and directed by Walt Davis, the film is an unusual combination of Hollywood satire, underground comedy, and early-1970s sexploitation. Its exaggerated characters and deliberately absurd situations recall the theatrical eccentricity of Andy Warhol’s cinema, particularly its fascination with aging stars and fading glamour.

Cleo O’Hara dominates the film as Gaye Ramon, embracing grotesque makeup, elaborate wigs, exaggerated gestures, and outrageous dialogue with remarkable enthusiasm. Her performance is especially interesting alongside her equally memorable appearance in Davis’s Evil Come Evil Go (1972), where she plays a very different kind of dangerous woman.

Billy Lane provides the youthful attraction as Buck, while Jill Sweete, Sandy Carey, and Andy Bellamy contribute to the film’s provocative atmosphere. O’Hara and Carey can also be seen together in Mysterious Jane (1973).

The movie’s Hollywood setting and cynical treatment of aspiring performers also make it an entertaining companion to Alice Goodbody (1974), another offbeat erotic comedy about the humiliations and temptations awaiting young women in the movie business.

Campy, shameless, and wonderfully eccentric, Oh! You Beautiful ‘Doll’ remains an entertaining curiosity of vintage American exploitation—a world where Hollywood dreams are sold through private auditions, faded celebrities refuse to surrender the spotlight, and sex appeal becomes the final currency of forgotten stardom.
