Description: When journalist Jean Duprey receives a cryptic letter from his aristocratic old friend, Prince Saint-Lambert, he and his wife Danielle travel to the prince’s ancient castle to investigate a bizarre illness afflicting the noble family. The moment they arrive, they sense the castle holds more than mere disease — a sinister legacy of witchcraft and death has lingered for generations.
Within the cold stone walls of the castle, disturbing events begin to unfurl: young women are found dead with deep claw marks across their bodies, long-buried secrets surface, and Danielle starts suffering nightmares of the stake and fire that mirror the tragic past. Jean uncovers a hidden library, an occult trial from 1650, and learns that the family curse is linked to a centuries-old witch named Tarin Drole — an anagram of his host’s wife, Rita Lernod.
As the mystery deepens, Jean realises that the real threat is not illness but dark sorcery: Rita uses the family’s bloodline to maintain her youth and power, while the Dupreys are drawn into the fatal game. In a climactic confrontation, Jean disrupts the occult rite, the castle explodes, and Rita is revealed in her true form before meeting a macabre fate. The survivors leave the estate changed forever — the curse seemingly ended, but the final page remains unwritten.
Filled with gothic gloom, occult menace, and that trademark 1970s Euro-horror atmosphere, Night of the Damned blends witch-craft myth, family decay, and voyeuristic dread into a cult gem. While the narrative moves slowly, the mood is heavy, the castle setting oppressive, and the imagery hauntingly beautiful.
