Description: Paul Snider is a flashy, self-absorbed hustler who thrives on empty charm and quick schemes. His life takes a dramatic turn when he discovers Dorothy Stratten, a shy and beautiful teenager working at a Dairy Queen. To Dorothy, Paul seems sophisticated and experienced, everything she believes she is not. To Paul, Dorothy is the ticket to his long-dreamed success. Convinced she has the looks to be a Playboy model, he pushes her toward the magazine he idolizes, hoping it will launch them both into a glamorous future.
Against the odds, Paul’s fantasy begins to take shape: Dorothy becomes Miss August 1979 and is soon crowned Playmate of the Year. Hollywood doors open for her, and she steps into a world of wealth, fame, and opportunity. But as Dorothy’s career and independence grow, Paul’s grip on her life begins to slip. He’s no longer seen as her mentor or partner, but as a parasite dragging behind her stardom—something even Hugh Hefner and director Aram Nicholas make clear.
As Dorothy pulls away, Paul spirals deeper into insecurity and desperation, unable to forge an identity beyond her shadow. Their marriage, once built on promises and illusions, deteriorates into jealousy and obsession. Everyone around them sees disaster looming—yet no one can stop the inevitable, tragic conclusion.
