Description: Jason Porter (Alex Cord) is an alcoholic photographer working on an archaeological dig in an Etruscan tomb from the 5th century BC. He has a history of mental illness and violence, which led to him being committed to a mental hospital in New York. Now, however, he is trying to regain some normalcy in his life.
After a rainstorm at the dig, he discovers the mutilated bodies of a couple, and the police immediately consider him the primary suspect. Some stolen artifacts from the site are found near the victims’ bodies, which is the only clue to the identity of the killer.
Porter has his own suspicions about who might be responsible, but the police interference hinders his investigation. To complicate matters, he is also troubled by the presence of his former lover, Myra Shelton (Samantha Eggar), who is now married to Nikos, a sadistic older man and conductor for a local theater—a place filled with suspicious characters.
