Description: Young newlyweds Valentina and Giovannino return from their honeymoon to a picturesque lakeside villa — only to discover their marriage hasn’t begun as expected. Though the romantic setting is perfect, Giovannino is unable to consummate the marriage, leaving Valentina frustrated and the couple under the silent judgment of their family and small-town gossip.

Their troubles are soon magnified by intrusive relatives: Giovannino’s libertine uncle Federico, a flamboyant womanizer, and Valentina’s conservative, overbearing mother Lucia — both desperate to “help” and restore the honor of the family name. Federico, convinced that his nephew’s problem must be resolved, and Lucia, worried about social humiliation, scheme to “correct” the situation. Meanwhile, suitors and opportunists circle quietly, sensing weakness in Giovannino’s impotence.

As Valentina feels her youth slipping away and the pressure becomes unbearable, temptation finally comes in the form of a charming French tourist. During a spontaneous escape from the overbearing domestic tension, she is rescued from a storm — and in that moment of vulnerability and longing, she experiences what she was denied with her husband.

Meanwhile, Giovannino and his mother-in-law end up sheltering together during the same storm, and in a strange, fateful twist, the intimate encounter between them “restores” Giovannino’s virility. When morning comes, the scandalous night is rationalized, and the couple returns home — broken illusions, family shame, and moral pretenses all quietly swept under the rug. But Valentina and Giovannino emerge from the chaos changed: their marriage consummated, their secret restored, and their future uncertain yet free from the burden of impotence and societal pressure.

Blending 1970s Italian erotic-comedy sensibilities with melodrama and taboo tension, The Virgin Wife offers a provocative portrait of shame, desire, and social hypocrisy — a film steeped in period atmosphere, sexual frustration, and moral entanglement typical of its era.
