Description: Four short stories on sexuality through the lens of 1970s Australia. The films are wildly divergent in style and content. A true mixed bag, but interesting as a glimpse of the birth of new talents in an emerging Australian film industry.
The Husband
A man finds his marriage has gone stale and becomes suspicious of his wife‘s fidelity.
A silly and stiffly acted opener doesn’t work as a satire on the male ego.
The Child
A young boy loses his innocence when he uncovers a clandestine relationship.
A poor man’s version of The Go-Between, right down to its period setting.
The Priest
A priest questions his faith and future when challenged by his mutual love for a young nun.
Fred Schepisi’s directorial debut is superbly acted and the standout story of the bunch.
The Family Man
Two middle class mates cheat on their wives in a night which highlights their hypocrisy and misogyny.
Awkward and dark examination of the male psyche presages David Williamson’s Don’s Party and has a sharp final twist.
